A scuffle ensues as Sandra ‘resists arrest, and ‘assaults a public-servant.’ ’ Sandra is later found dead (of asphyxiation) hanging from a trash bag in her cell.
Preliminary autopsy results show ‘deep tissue bruising to her back,’ consistent with someone pushing a knee into Sandra’s back.
Sandra Bland posted regularly on Facebook and social-media as an advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement; in which she speaks-out against Police brutality, inequity, and racism.
‘Being a black person in America is very, very hard. At the moment black lives matter. They matter.’ Sandra says in a video posted in April.
Elton Mathis, the District Attorney (‘D.A.’) is investigating Sandra Bland’s death as a murder. FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Texas Rangers, a branch of the Texas Department of Public Safety are also investigating.
